Research and Publication of Factsheets on Gender Equality
Three factsheets were produced highlighting gender issues in Community Development, the Peace and Reconciliation Programme (Peace II) and work with Refugees. The purpose of the
factsheets is to outline gender issues in each of the three areas and to document models of good practice both national and international.
The factsheets are part of a series commissioned by the NDP Gender Equality Unit to assist agencies and organisations responsible for the implementation of the National Development Plan.

Research into the Links between Homelessness and Drug Use
This research considered the links between homelessness and drug use, explored local service providers' policies and practices in relation to these issues and examined the experience
homeless drug users have of homeless services.
It involved interviews with homeless drug users and service providers in the greater Tallaght area. The subsequent research report entitled 'Heroin - the Mental Roof over your Head' outlines recommendations for more effective delivery of services to this client group. It is due for publication in December 2003.

Production of Gender Proofing Handbook
The Gender Proofing Handbook was produced to provide information and practical assistance to those planning to gender proof strategies or development plans. The Handbook oulines why
gender proofing is needed, provides general background information on the issue and suggests how to apply the a gender proofing process to objectives and actions.

Design, production and delivery of 'Women Making Decisions' Education Programme
This education programme, accredited by University College Dublin, was designed to develop the leadership capacity of women who have an interest in, and knowledge of, gender issues and
are interested in assuming places on decision making bodies.
Themes include 'Patriarchy and Power', 'Women in Modern Politics' (local and international), 'Strategies for Change', the European Union, 'Irish political and local decision making structures' and ‘Barriers to Women's Participation’. (2003)

Training on Gender Proofing and Gender Impact Assessment
Training on Gender Mainstreaming, Gender Proofing and Gender Impact Assessment has been delivered to; goverment departments (north and south), partnerships and other local decision
making bodies, national, regional and local voluntary/community organisations and political parties.
Each training session is tailor-made to meet the needs of the particular client. All aim to increase awareness of gender equality issues and to develop practical ways in which agencies can actively work towards gender equality.

Research with Protestant Communities in Border Areas
This action research was aimed at firstly, identifying the needs, concerns and issues facing minority Protestant communities living in the border area and secondly examining the reasons
for low uptake of the Peace and Reconciliation Programme by these communities.
It involved facilitating, analysing and documenting two workshops in each of the four selected communities and identifying recommendations which will enhance uptake of Peace II by Protestant communities. The research report was produced in December 2001.

North/South Rural Development Project Proposal
This project involved writing a proposal for a new cross border initiative led by Irish Rural Link and Rural Community Network NI.
The project was for work with marginalised communities in the border region and focussed on capacity building and linking rural development practice to policy. The project involved writing a comprehensive project proposal, an executive summary and delivering presentations on the proposal to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development NI, the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development and the Board of Irish Rural Link.
